Bheemtal - A Serene Place in Uttaranchal

Bheemtal is a serene and beautiful place in Uttaranchal State at an altitude of 1370 meters. It is 22km away from much popular tourist place Nainital. The pride of this place is Bheemtal lake which bigger & cleaner than Naini Lake. It is named after Bhima of Mahabharata, who as per mythology, created it during the banishment (Vanvas) period of pandavas. There is a 17th century Bhimeshwar Mahadev (Shiva) temple near the lake. The original temple is believed to be built by Bhima. The present temple was built by by Baz Bahadur (1638-78 AD), a King of the Chand dynasty, and the Raja of Kumaon.

I like this place since it is less crowded, clean and serene. There are other locations such as Naukhuchiatal (Lake with nine corners), Sattal (7 lakes), Golu Devta temple at Ghorakhal (a temple with thousands of bells)
